Family health, especially family planning and reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health are at the very centre of everything we do.
We have significant experience designing and managing a large portfolio of projects for multiple clients, including FCDO, USAID and the World Bank.
While the overall reproductive and maternal health situation is improving for many women and children in developing counties, there is still a long way to go. Many women of reproductive age still die when giving birth, girls and adolescents are not able to access or use family planning without stigma and prejudice. The health and nutritional status of newborns and young children is often lacking. Having many children makes it harder for families to support them properly, and this puts pressures on their education, women’s roles in society and the environment’s resources. Men are still not involved in the health and wellbeing of their families as they should be and government health systems struggle to provide high-quality and available services to those that need them most.
Reproductive and maternal heath is the central focus of Halcyon’s work, and cuts across the public and private sectors, and all stages of programme cycles. Key areas of expertise within RMNCAH include maternal and new born health, family planning and adolescents. We help design, implement and evaluate programmes and their impact on women and girls, and support governments to develop better policies, strategies and resources to support programmes. Through our community work we tackle the barriers that prevent reproductive and maternal health services from being used, and we integrate nutrition into programme interventions to support pregnant women and children under five.
