Programme reviews, evaluations and assessments
We conduct assessments and research to inform good development programmes, and we carry out reviews and evaluations to understand how effective programmes are.
Halcyon’s experts have an extensive track record of carrying out a wide range of assessments, research, reviews and evaluations, especially across Africa. We have been responsible for researching various programme interventions for the private sector, including demand-side and consumer behaviour for reproductive health products and assessing the supply-side options to roll out health services across countries. Our team has helped donors understand how their gender and health programmes are operating and how improvements could be made so that better results can be achieved with better value for money, and so that future programmes can apply important lessons and best practices.
EXAMPLES OF OUR EXPERTS AND EXPERIENCE.
Rob Wood has carried out a wide range of assessments and research on the private sector and health markets which have helped design a number of large health programmes such as DFID’s private sector family planning programme in Pakistan, and the total health market in Kenya. He’s led several health programme reviews of donor programmes, as well as end of project evaluations including several gender based violence evaluation and research in Somalia. Rob is currently the lead consultant for an evaluation of an integrated reproductive health programme in Somalia which is funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation.
Carol Matiko is a very experienced researcher, having spent more than 17 years exploring and understanding consumer preferences, choices and habits in private sector health care systems. Recently, Carol has led human centred designed research to inform programme, including on topics such as contraceptive microchips, HIV self-testing, emergency contraception, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis and sub-cutaneous Depro Provera contraceptive injections.
Jack Musembi is an adept researcher, assessor and evaluator, having carried out numerous assignments for complex health programmes funded by DFID and USAID in Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and South Sudan. Jack’s evaluations are often focussed on conflict-affected areas and fragile states. Most recently, he was the operational research lead in charge of investigating the points of entry surveillance for the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
